If you want to catch carp you’ll need to learn to tie a good knotless knot because it forms an essential part of most modern carp rigs. The knotless knot works with any type of hooklink material and can be used on any pattern of hook. Its main use is as a way of attaching hooks to your hooklink but it is also used for creating hair rigs. A lot of modern carp rigs require the hookbait to be attached to a small swivel running along the shank of the hook. To achieve this, tie the knotless knot as shown below and then simply cut off the tag end that would normally be used for the hair.
STEP BY STEP GUIDE
1. Tie a small loop in the end of your chosen hooklink and pass the other end through the eye of the hook
2. Hold the hair at the desired length which will be determined by the size of your hookbait and then whip the hooklink around the hair
3. The number of whips depends on the type of rig, but don’t go further than level with the point of the hook
4. To complete the knot, pass the hooklink back through the eye of the hook. It’s crucial it’s passed through the rear of the hook and not the front.
