If you are looking for a Spey casting instructor, or even an instructor who doubles up as an experienced salmon fishing guide, then look no further than Tom Brown.
Central Scotland based, Tom travels anywhere between the mighty Rivers Tay and Spey all the way to Norway guiding and teaching his art. A more patient tutor you will struggle to find, whom is increasingly driven throughout a session to transform you into the best caster and salmon angler you can be. You will feel enlightened and confident in his experience driven knowledge.
Tom welcomes beginners young and old looking to at least try the sport, through to the most experienced anglers trying to add that extra 5ft to a long cast, and remedy small faults like avoiding the line stalling in mid-air or techniques to get your fly down to Spring fish without adding weight. Tom can cover any technique of Salmon fly angling you can think of.
Of course we’d like to mention Tom’s connection to Ian Gordon’s Salmon fishing adventures and the fact that Ian and Tom work closely together from the Tay and the Spey to the likes of the Gaula, Orkla, Ponoi and Varzuga.
A day of learning with Tom includes, (besides a barrel of laughs, great locations and pure enjoyment):
- His preference in rods & equipment and why;
- Styles of fly lines used e.g. long bellied Spey lines, scandi/shooting head systems and skagit systems;
- The practical application of equipment and technique;
- And hopefully hooking a stunning Atlantic Salmon on the beautiful beat/river he introduces you to.
Tom loves anything traditional, namely Hardy rods and reels, and he has the privilege of product ‘test-driving’ Hardy/Greys equipment during product development and release.
